What Is Electronic Music
A lot of people would always wonder what electronic music is and its origin. Basically, electronic music refers to music that is produced using electronic musical instruments and that applies electronic music technology during its production. Electronic devices used to produce electronic music include, but not limited to computers, sound synthesizers and Theremin.
The main focus of electronic music is the instrumental composition. It is hugely characterized by its way of composition and the way the music focuses on the electronic features of the music. However, it is important to note that electronic music only uses the devices as tools and not as composition aids.
Electronic sound production dates back to 1857 when the earliest device that could record sound, the Phonautograph was discovered. Since technology was not as advanced as today, the device could only record sounds visually, but couldn’t play the sounds back.
Since then, there have been major milestones in the development of electronic instruments that would record, produce and amplify the sounds to produce great rhythms. Such instruments include samplers, synthesizers, filtering techniques and drum machines.
Thanks to advancement in technology, today, electronic music production has been made simple thanks to the sophisticated equipments and software in place. A lot of devices that only existed as hardware have been replaced by virtual counterparts. On the same note, artists can now individuate their music production just by creating and customizing software synthesizers and effect modules, not forgetting millions of other composition environments that will produce outstanding music.
